Five Steps to Becoming a Four Figure Blogger
By Ben on August 2, 2006
Hi, My name is David Krug. I own a variety of blogs and am a jack of all trades master of none. I have some really cool ideas of what to do with this site. But for the time being I will saturate my appetite for sharing ways people make money on blogs that is inspiring hopefully to the usual readers of College-Startup.
A few months back I sold a website, PokerMoments that was largely developed by the former owner of this blog Ben Bleikamp, and Steve Vorholt. I received a bit of cash for it. Nothing huge or grand. It was all about liquidation and streamlining topics I had no way of knowing how to keep developing it and also because the illustrious poker genius Steve Vorholt was heading to Australia for the summer. I had a private sale on Sitepoint. It was nice.
The new buyer was aggressive in developing solid content and a good fan base. And because of that has attracted some buyers for text links he sells on the blog. In less than two months time he’s making close to 500 dollars a month on the site. The key concept here is while some might question the value of buying a blog. Here’s a case in point where you can buy a blog, lose the original voice and still make a handsome micro-fortune at it.
Ben has often talked to me in person and on this blog about becoming a 4 figure blogger. Well here’s one way.
Five Steps to Becoming a Four Figure Blogger
1) Buy An Established Site on Sitepoint
2) Develop Solid Winning Content You Are Passionate About
3) Monetize Smartly Without Scaring off your Readers
4) Learn some common sense SEO and implement it.
5) Develop An Exit Strategy ( If you get bored easily like me)

[…] It’s really getting old. During my hold time I was able to get a blog post up at College Startup however. […]
And you’ve also switched full-text feeds off, a bad move IMO.
Elliot,
Switched back on just the default installation over here on Dreamhost sorry about that.
[…] David Krug, the new owner of College Start Up kicks off with his debut post Five Steps to Becoming a Four Figure Blogger where he outlines strategies to make a micro-fortune blogging. […]
Hi David,
Good luck with the new blog, I’ll be keeping the feed in my reader :)
Elliott - I actually had full text feeds turned off when I owned the site…
Before you go helping everyone else get rich…help me :)
This is a great first post on your new blog. I agree with all the steps on your list. I especially agree with number two. Writing content that you have a passion for will help retain readership like nothing else will. Without consistent eyes and clicks on your blog how are oyu going to make those four figures? It goes wihtout saying that having fun while blogging about a topic that interests you is a step in the right direction.

hey - it’s nice to hear from the lucky new owner of college-startup. Nice first post, and I look forward to continue reading this blog. good luck.
